DIY Bookshelves You Should Consider for Your Modern Home

If you’re anything like me you have tons of books and that’s no exaggeration. While I have some great bookcases I still have books that don’t have a place on the shelf, but I don’t want to get rid of them either. The great thing about 2018 is that there are so many creative people out there who are constantly sharing ideas with us via the world wide web! We can literally build a bookcase or bookshelf all by ourselves for a fraction of the price it costs to buy them. Plus, it’s a fun project to do with your friends or family. And it’s very rewarding when you see your item being used in action in your home. There is just a great sense of pride and satisfaction that comes from making it yourself or DIY projects. So, I needed some more shelving for my books and wasn’t sure where to turn to. I found some crafty modern ideas that have been thought up in 2018! Which means they aren’t just creative, but extremely modern and perfect for the modern home. So whether you just want some creative shelving in your home or you need a spot for your books you need to check out these amazingly modern DIY bookshelf designs.

Stacked crates have always been a fun industrial look. The fun things about crates are that you can paint them any color you want. You can even decorate the side, show you would like as well after it’s built. Basically, these can be customized to you and your home. The other great thing about crates is that they are incredibly stable and have lots of space for books or other items. I use bookshelf very loosely on this design though as I think it’s more of a bookcase of sorts, but it’s still very modern and cool. Also great if you need the extra storage for anything aside from books. Go here to get the tutorial.

If you’re looking for a more modern farmhouse bookshelf look than you want to go with this particular design that has a pattern on the sides that is reminiscent of something you would find in a farmhouse kitchen but is still modern enough to be found in a winery. This design takes a little more doing and is a more neutral less customizable design. If you’re interested in something like that then go to the tutorial here. I do feel like this design is something Chip and Joanna Gaines would use for their homes they redo.

If you’re looking for a rustic look that also screams contemporary or modern, then you need to go with this fabulous bookshelf! It’s an A-line look or as I like to call them the pyramid bookshelves. You have a smaller shelf at the top with bigger shelving continuously getting bigger as you get to the bottom rung. This is great not just for books, but for anything you want to show off in your home. For instance, if you have a great collection of expensive Knick-knacks or vintage jars this is the place to put them. Fun tip this design came from space-saving Japan. So if you’re looking for some Asian inspiration as well look no further than this A-line design. If you want to make this project yourself go here.

Maybe you don’t have room for a big bookshelf or may you just want a small one shelf or two that will be perfect for your bedroom. I have seen some people who belong to book clubs use this for their bedrooms. They put the books they are reading for that month on that particular shelf and rotate the books constantly. If this is your aim then you may want this hanging leather strapped bookshelf. It’s literally one shelf hanging from your ceiling via leather straps and metal hooks. This design looks a bit vintage and modern mixed into one. It really could go in any space and any house as its very versatile in its look. Go here to learn how to make it yourself.

If you really want to get creative, try a rustic bookshelf that LITERALLY spells out H-O-M-E and goes on your wall. This is not only cute and creative but if you put it towards the front of your home as focal piece everyone who enters will feel very welcomed. To learn how to do this crafty DIY design go here.

Going on the same sort of style as the HOME bookshelf above this TREE bookshelf will have you feeling extra cool and extra creative. Think of it as your own personal tree of knowledge for your modern home. Each book is placed on a different branch of the bookshelf representing different knowledge that is branching in your home. This isn’t only creative and cool looking, but deeply meaningful. To get this design go here.
